Jen and I went to Bells this past weekend for an American Homebrewers Association rally. I signed up to be a member, which, my only main reason was to get this homebrew magazine subscription Zymurgy (it's a good read!). I met some awesome people, and had a chance to meet and chat with Larry Bell. He was a really down to earth guy, telling stories and talking beer with us all. I tried their double Oberon 9%, as well as the cherry stout and others. They made us a spiced stout and a dopplebock for the event, both were awesome.

Indiana running...
The scariest Indiana run i've done yet. Pitch black.. running down back field roads. I could hear deer breathing, grunting and stomping as I ran by them before they ran off. Sun came up after 3 miles.. made rest of run eaisier. :)

Redwings Pre-season - Wednesday, Sept. 24th!

I haven't checked if this is on T.V. yet, but they're playing Montreal. Holy wow, it's hockey season again. See schedule here.
The real Oktoberfest...
Here's a photo gallery of the real Oktoberfest this year in Munich. I'm sure just a little bit better than the DRB's. :) Click here to see the rest of the photos.

Oktoberfest @ The DRB - Success!

Oktoberfest @ Dayton Road Brewing was a definite success. I found out after already planning the party, that Munich's Oktoberfest started the same day, so it made it even more festive. Here's the run down:
- 60 brats were consumed.
- Around 10 lbs of german potato salad
- More than 16 gallons of beer
- One bottle of Jaeger
- A lot of cornhole was played, and, if I remember right, I think my team won!
- The cops never showed up
- A door to door sales guy did, and drank a beer with us
- The live accordion music was a hit
- Can't recall the time the night ended, but I do remember finding it pretty humorous watching the empty keg rolling off the roof of the garage.
One thing we (Jen) forgot were the pretzels! So, I may have to have another Oktoberfest 2 celebration and just feed everyone hot/baked pretzels and mustard. :)

Baby likes and dislikes...

As an almost new father (4 mos. to go!), this pregnancy thing has been a learning experience. I find myself cooking and waking up 3 times a night when she makes trips to the bathroom. The other thing she started probably a couple months into it was telling me what the baby likes and dislikes. Here are some examples:
- "Baby likes breakfast sausage".. Who'd of thought a baby would crave breakfast sausage?! Daisy (the dog) and I were standing around the stove around 6 a.m. this morning slowly cooking turkey sausage.. (yeah, much healthier than normal sausage).
- "Baby doesn't like loud Metallica".. This one almost offended me. Jen back stepped slowly out of the garage last night as if there was some radio active material in there. I had to turn the music down to appease "the baby."
- "Baby wants Taco Bell... Now!".. I was jumping out of the car to buy some beer in Indiana, when I got this line. We rarely eat Taco Bell. I looked at her and said "are you serious?!".. she confirmed. Apparently, hard taco supremes are now a permanent food group in her diet.
- "Baby doesn't like riding in the civic".. well, deal with it! It's great on gas. So it's a little loud, rides like a skate board, has no shocks and grinds gears every so often, it still rocks and rolls. I had to put my foot down on this one.
And my absolute favorite, is.. - "Baby loves to sleep in" .. This one made me laugh. Jen sleeps in longer than anyone and always has. I can get up, go for a run, shower, run errands, do lawn work and other odds and ends before she rolls out of bed. If baby likes to sleep in, I imagine now she'll be sleeping all day on weekends!

Tailgating fun..
Well, they lost. Bad. But, we still had a lot of fun. We woke up around 6 a.m. Saturday morning after beer drinking 'til around 1:30 a.m. We all piled in the van and headed to South Bend, Indiana. We set up in the pouring rain and I grilled breakfast burritos for everyone. We drank beer all day, grilled, met some nice people, then watched the game on a t.v. from the van. I think we'll do it again in a couple of years, but we're going to make sure Michigan has a better football team next time.

Hail to the victors
Sure the team might be going through a growing spurt this year, but I'm still a loyal fan. This weekend, a pile of us are loading up a van with coolers of beer, meat, cigars, cornhole and more beer and are heading to South Bend Indiana to watch Michigan beat Notre Dame. It's going to rain the forecast says, but we don't care. We're going to tailgate, enjoy the day and cheer on Michigan. If you need to get pumped up for the game, watch the video below. I'm sure I'll be posting some flickr pictures throughout the day and the Sunday after the game, so stay tuned. Go Blue!!!
