When will Netflix release Lilyhammer Season 2?

We cut cable in the fall, and I mean completely cut it. We don't have an antenna for local stations, so we basically rely on the $7.99 a month Netflix streaming package, and our Roku box for television entertainment. We hardly watch TV anymore, most of our viewing consumption is done via streaming iPad or phone.
Netflix is cool and all, but you get what they give you. There are some cool documentaries, movies and series, but quite a bit are shows that I probably wouldn't otherwise watch - though I do now that I have nothing else to watch..
I was excited to hear Netflix was releasing an original series in February called Lilyhammer. The HBO-like series is based on a main character (Steven Van Dandt - otherwise known for being Bruce Springsteens E-Street Band guitarist) plays a mobster in the witness protection program. He decides to relocate to Lillehammer Norway, basically a snowy, fridged wasteland.
The series moves pretty quickly. It's kind of hard to take the main character seriously at first, he's kind of goofy trying to fit into a foreign land, but not long into the series, he takes on this "Tony Montana" type character, where he basically runs the show. It has it's cutesy parts, and it has some light violence, but all in all I thought it was pretty solid. I blasted through the entire season, warming up to the characters, and left wondering what's going to happen next.
I should warn you, there's a lot of subtitles. They usually bug the hell out of me, but for some reason, this season I didn't even notice them.
Now I begin googling "When will Netflix release Lilyhammer Season 2?" ... When I find an answer, I'll update this post!   Until then, if you've not heard of it, here's the trailer.  Watch the first episode, and I guarantee in a few days you'll have watched all 8 episodes.

Lillyhammer is very original, unlike most of the trash showing on network tv. I'm looking forward to season 2.

  5. When I find out, I'll post it. I hate the fact that I have to wait now for the next season. And, being it's Netflix.... when exactly is the next season? I wonder what the plan is for these full season releases. Like, I wonder if they should just blast out a full run program, but insert a timely relevent advertising piece. Who knows, but for a Netflix only release, this was a good first run. I'm a huge fan of mobster type films, and this entertained me. So much so, .... I watched it all in 1 weekend. :)

i think netflix really dropped the ball on this show. it's probably the best show on tv since the sopranos (this is actually "silvio goes to norway"). seems like they did no advertising for it. until i heard van zandt mention it on the radio, didn't even know show existed. this would be huge for netflix if they could give the show some publicity.

  6. I love Lilyhammer too! Netflix is really on to something, and it is clear that whoever they have working for them on the original series gig really knows what they are doing. Can't wait for Season 2!

    1. Netflix bought into it after NRK (Norwegian National Broadcasting) and Rubicon (production company) had started and gained international attention.
They're shooting season 2 now, so it'll be a little while, and they are now officially in talks about season 3.

I have just spent the last few days watching the final 7 episodes of Lilyhammer, Season 1. After watching the first episode a few weeks ago, I wasn't sure that this was a series I wanted to bother with. Steven Van Zandt's role had changed much since the Sopranos, but it was less believable in a Norwegian context. However, each eposide was interesting and quite humorous. Like everyone I else I am waiting for Season 2 to arrive as the ending of the final episode left you dangling.

  9. I found lilyhammer by accident while browsing. Didn't even realize it was little Steven - and I am a huge Springsteen and Soprano's fan.

My son's favorite show was Arrested Development, which is also being produced for release by Netflix.

Not a lot of info about release for either shows. Will keep looking and can't wait for season 2!

To the writer of this article why not just get a bluray player that has the ability to stream netflix to your tv?? I myself use a computer hooked up to a 42" plasma and use it as my daily monitor and have a wireless interface (keyboard and mouse) and just sit on the couch and watch my netflix from there, plus i can go online and do whatever, but anywho i love the show lilyhammer i hope they have more episodes next time, like 20 :D lol

  17. The show just started here in Sweden, and I was a little interested about the rewievs in the states..Altough I'm not from Lillehammer,Norway-I'm from Stockholm,Sweden if you must know....I'm having pretty good knowledge about our brotherland..The scandinavian stereotypes and all that. And I was surpriced when many commentators elsewhere thought it was a so crappy so it was more of a punishment to see it...It's a comedy, but more meat in it than "2 and half men" -that btw is so unfresh show I'm stunned people actually watching it...So I was a little surpriced when I found this page and noticed that some people in USA actually liked it!
And what many seems to miss: The show is written by norwegians with Van Zandt, the producers are a mix of Scaninavian companys-and maybe some from US. (I didn't pay much attention to that thing..)

(And about the subtitles...Its something you get used to. Think about this: In Italy ,Spain,France,Germany Clint Eastwood is talking those languages when he for example saying to the guy in Dirty Harry: "Do I feel lucky?"What an insult, but they are used to that! That thing doesnt help the skills in English either for example...So I'm feeling lucky to hear those word in the way they should! (We use subtitles in the whole Scandinavia-I guess, and Its a lot more better than dubbing voices. And you get used to English, even If I'm sure this comment have some bad grammar & spelling...)

    - Bruce Springsteen will be out on tour, and when he will the course be with the E Street Band, Steven Van Zandt is part of, says Hallberg, who believes the tour is going to last until the beginning of 2013:

    - We hope to come in time with the recordings during the next year and then we'll see when the new season comes on television.

    From Norway

I loved season 1 also and can't wait to see more....Why would someone else leave comments for us to watch some other show, when those shows are nothing like Lilyhammer....Duh, we did not ask you for suggestion, I those people work for other tv networks...

  20. We were just talking about this show today. To be honest, I had forgotten completely about it. They shouldn't wait so long between seasons. With that said, I did enjoy the first season and hope I don't miss season 2.

Bruce and The E street Band are still on Tour, last scheduled date I saw for the tour was July 20, 2013.. that tour started earlier this year, I was at the concert in August.. Bruce, Little Steven and the rest of the E Street Band were fantastic! can't wait for Lilyhammer Season 2...but it's gonna be a while

This is a great series. After watching it I told at least a dozen people about it and most came back with positive reviews.

    I can't wait for season 2.

Is this the first Netflix, original series or movie? THey did a great job. I would like to see more original stuff from them. Give the TV, hollywood and cable some competition, which is always good for the consumer.
